Why Meal Prep?
You see all these posts; people making their meals for the week ahead, putting them in fancy Tupperware and being super organised. Meal prepping heaven!
But why?
Meal prep might just be for you - let take a look at why..
Achieving goals
If you have a set goal that you want to achieve, you may want to look into meal prepping for a number of reasons. When you have a goal, such as weight loss for example, you want to be sure you are in a calorie deficit. How? By making sure you are consuming (taking in) less than you are expending (putting out). By pre-planning your meals for the week ahead, you can be sure that you are doing what you should be doing, to achieve your goal.
Meal prepping is also a very good way to be consistent - if you have the goal of living a healthier lifestyle for example, you might want to use meal prepping and planning so that you know that you have put everything in place and you are hitting your goals daily.
Pre-planning for any goal is a sure way to success and will also make it easier to identify when something isn’t working.
Productivity
Meal prepping makes you more productive!!
Think about it - if you had your meals ready, had planned exactly what you are going to eat next, then you have one less thing to think about each day. How much time would you save in not having to source your next meal?
The time you save you could be put to good use; you could get more work done or do something you always wanted to do - because over the course of the week you will have saved time.
“You’ll see I wear only gray or blue suits,” [Obama] said. “I’m trying to pare down decisions. I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make.”
- Barack Obama
Cost
Looking for easy way to save money? The cost of meal prepping compared to eating out at lunch time makes a big difference to your bank balance. Meal prepping could be the answer.
Let’s take a look at the popular meal deals you see in your local supermarkets. You get a salad / sandwich, fruit pot and drink for £3-4.
If you made a Chicken pasta salad, have an apple and bring a water bottle from home it would cost £2.08
That’s a saving of at least 92p on one meal. CHING CHINGGG!
Improve cooking skills
Meal prepping is an opportunity to get creative in the kitchen. Look for recipes online and make it at home. There so many places to find recipes online - you just have to type into Google what you are looking for, and they will appear!
Pinterest is my favourite place to get ideas. You can find so many creative recipes (healthy and not so healthy) on there - get pinning. J
Meal prepping is an overall winner if you ask me. Next week I will go into how to meal prep effectively.
