The Journey

You can’t fail your fitness journey. No matter where you are right now, know you haven’t failed. You are exactly where you are meant to be.

When it comes to fitness, people talk about the journey. Why do they call it a journey?

Because it is full of highs and lows that make up a series of events that you look back on when you reach milestones within your “journey”.

Sometimes we find ourselves lacking motivation and ending up in a place we didn’t plan to be by this point in time. We have set goals, expectations and didn’t live up to the ideas of how life would look right now and that is ok.

Unfortunately for most of us when we don’t meet out expectations we start to beat ourselves up, but here’s a concept what if you just accepted it for what it is. A journey.

Accepting what has happened doesn’t change it but it gives you an opportunity to move forward without guilt.

Throughout the years I’ve learnt to be more compassionate towards myself, especially when it comes to my health and fitness. I don’t always meet my goals and life can get in the way. Look at 2020 as a perfect example of how things completely change your personal circumstances overnight. I’m sure most of us sat at the beginning of the year and wrote down what we wanted to achieve and when by.

That 2020 vision!

Then Covid-19.

This is a bigger scale barrier to our goals (I’m not saying its impossible) and you can put the full blame on the lockdown for sabotaging your goals. However you may be left feeling deflated, upset or inadequate. This makes it harder to move forward.

What is self-compassion?

“Self-compassion is extending compassion to one’s self in instances of perceived inadequacy, failure, or general suffering”

It is important to look at the bigger picture, because you missed a workout, a week, a month doesn’t mean you “fell out” your fitness journey. It’s part of the journey.

The mind likes to focus on the negatives, which can cause more negative thoughts.

So start now, recognize what has happened and then make the decision every day to do something to better your health and fitness. It doesn’t have to be a huge step, just small efforts every day that add up to the bigger picture. When you don’t meet your expectations that is ok, because with self-compassion you are able to move forward into the next day with the knowledge that what matters is your actions now.

Try this and watch how your life changes!
